Beat the Blues Day – Tuesday 22 October

Beat the Blues Day – Tuesday 22 October

Similar to last year, we are having ‘Beat the Blues Day’, held this year on Tuesday 22 October. This is a fundraising event as organised by Hughes House to raise money for beyondblue, an agency that does great work around mental health. On this day, students will have the opportunity to listen to some live music, purchase some food from the sausage sizzle and wear their “blue” jeans or “blue” jean-shorts for a gold coin donation, which will be collected during Tutor Group. Jeans and shorts need to be appropriate ie no rips or holes, and the shorts should be at least as long as students’ school sports shorts; students are to wear their school sports shirts and sandshoes with their jeans or shorts on this day.
In a world where mental health issues among our young people are on the increase, it is important we are providing them with resources and support. It is also important that we educate them about the importance of seeking help. So, let’s work together to get this message across to them, in October and beyond.
To this end, please find below some support mechanisms should your young person, yourself or someone else you know be suffering from a mental health illness and be needing some immediate support:

• Lifeline 13 11 14
• Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800
• Parentline 1300 30 1300
