Chinese New Year @ SSC : The Year of the Pig
Embracing culture and celebrating differences is something we do exceptionally well at Saint Stephen’s College! We welcome students and their families from all over the world to study, live, learn and make quality contributions to our College Community. The development of global perspectives is of upmost importance for the future of our world and at SSC we take this responsibility very seriously.
Our Chinese New Year celebrations have become quite famous and are certainly growing in size and popularity each year. This is a tradition we hope to continue now and into the future.
Monday saw an excess of 3000 Chinese dumplings made by our College Chinese parents and shared with our students and staff. This powerhouse of parents dedicated many hours of their free time to make these dumplings from scratch right here on our campus, and they were absolutely delicious!
We were entertained by the talents of the Manis Kung Fu school lion dancers and they certainly added vibrancy and colour to our festival. Roger Fan, SSC Year 12 student and current International Captain showed us just why he is a national champion in Tai Chi with impressive demonstrations of his art.
A very special thank you of course goes to our Chinese parent community, ably driven by staff member, Mrs Trisha Cochrane for organising this whole event. What a champion team you all are!
Finally, I thank each and every person who contributed to our Chinese New Year celebration at SSC and I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did!
