The Foundations Programme
The Foundations Programme encompasses all students from Preparatory to Year 3 and involves a number of teaching and specialist staff.
The early years of schooling are indeed a very special time for children, their parents and their teachers. These are the conceptual years where strong foundations are laid so that future life-long learning can take place. Literacy and Numeracy play the dominant role in the curriculum of the early years. Skills and understanding in these areas are developed through a wide range of teaching strategies to cater for a wide range of learning styles. Hands-on experiences form the basis of all learning in the early years. Children need to explore concepts from many angles and experience life like and real life situations to develop a thorough understanding. We strive to provide flexible learning environments for all children in the Foundations Programme and enjoy watching each individual blossom as they grow and mature.
Throughout the week, students in the Foundations Programme enjoy music and physical education lessons. Children in Years 1 to 3 also participate in technology lessons each week, as well as an Assembly and a Chapel Service. Year 3 children have the pleasure of engaging in the Year 3 Strings Programme, where they learn how to play the violin, viola or cello. Children have many other extra-curricular opportunities available to them, including Speech and Drama, Piano, Art, Singing, Chess and Dance.
Some of the highlights of our programme during the year include, the Easter Hat Parade, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, Circus Day, Barefoot in the Park, Dad’s Book and BBQ Night, Year 3 Sleepover, Cross Country Carnivals, swimming lessons, Athletics Carnivals, and a Christmas Concert, to name a few.
PREP
The curriculum in Prep is strongly linked to the Prep Early Year's Guidelines and the learning experiences are planned using the Five Early Learning Areas: social and personal; health and physical; language and communication; early mathematical understandings; and active learning processes. A typical day in prep will find the children engaged in many varied play experiences, routines and transitions, focused teaching times, as well as real-life investigations.
YEARS 1 to 3
Children in the early years of schooling develop at different rates, and all have different needs at different times. These needs may be emotional, social, physical or cognitive. Sometimes, students may require extra assistance or extension in particular areas. Our classroom teachers differentiate their curriculum to cater for these specific needs and learning styles. Children who would benefit from extra support or extension in their learning needs may also access learning support or enrichment programmes as required.
