Senior students share kayaking skills with special needs ‘buddies’
About 20 Saint Stephen’s College Year 12 students have spent their final school term as ‘buddy’ kayaking coaches for special needs guests from across the Gold Coast, organised through the local charity JAMS (Joy for all Minds).
The five-week Special Needs Kayaking Program is part of the College’s Year 12 PE curriculum that has been running for more than 10 years.Read more »
Saint Stephen’s hosts USA FlipCon conference
Saint Stephen’s College hosted the first FlipCon conference in Australia with keynotes by international ‘flipped learning’ pioneers Aaron Sams and Jon Bergmann.

International Award for leading learning initiatives
Saint Stephen’s College has been acknowledged internationally as a front runner in blended learning with the presentation of the D2L Brightspace Excellence Award at the 2015 Ignite Asia Pacific (APAC) conference on the Gold Coast.
The College was one of three institutions in the region (also Victoria University and Singapore Management University) recognised for innovative education experiences using the Brightspace platform created by the EdTech company D2L. Saint Stephens was highlighted as the: “front runner in taking a structured, well-planned, organisation-wide drive towards blended learning. The school embodies the true value of flexibility and has made huge strides in creating engaging experiences for its students. It currently offers more than 160 courses via its Brightspace-based learning platform, all of which were carefully developed to be simple to use...” Director Asia Pacific D2L, Marlon Herft, said award winners had delivered platforms that drove self-paced, catered learning which advanced teachers and students beyond the limits set by the traditional education method. “In doing so, they have created environments relevant to the digital age where teaching and learning surpasses classrooms and lecture theatres, and fosters better outcomes by enabling more resources, insights and predictability than ever before,” said Mr Marlon. D2L, formerly Desire2Learn, is an educational technology company known for its cloud-based platform Brightspace. SSC Factor shines on junior musical
About 300 students in Years 4, 5 and 6 battled it out in the penultimate show of the SSC Factor series – winning over the judges, the crowd and the 2015 crown!
There was no doubt the College Consolidations musical, and every performer on stage, was a star. Contestants worked long and hard perfecting their vocals skills and dance choreography for their final performance and had the courage to lay it all on the line and stand out from the crowd booming out their hits: Happy, Que Sera, We All Stand Together, Titanium, The Nights, We Are Family, Heroes, Cool Kids, You’re The One That I want and Freaks.
