Great community service shown by our international students from Japan!
This year eight students from our Japanese sister school, Okayama Gakugeikan, added to the international flavour of the Gold Coast marathon by running on Saturday and volunteering to serve drinks on Sunday.
These students attend our College for a year to learn English and experience our culture. These students decided the marathon weekend was a great way to become involved in both the College and community activities. It was quite noticeable the positive impact on the many Japanese runners who participated in the event when they heard encouragement in their native language! This service included a couple of very early mornings and our international students did this with a smile and a lot of enthusiasm. Well done, guys! We are very proud of you and we know the runners from Australia and Japan were very grateful.Read more »
Congratulations Gold Coast Ambassador, Rouen!
Ten International Student Ambassadors have been chosen to promote the City of the Gold Coast to the world, and Rouen Thouen is one of these!
Rouen completed a rigorous application process involving a written paper and a panel interview to be considered for this prestigious position. Not only is Rouen the only Ambassador from Cambodia, he is actually the only school age student in this group of ten! Rouen will have the opportunity to provide regular updates about his life and experiences here as a student on the Gold Coast. Some of these include a visit to Dreamworld, Gold Coast Suns matches, Lantern Ghost tours, Seaworld, Thunderbird Park, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Sunset Safaris, surfing lessons, whale watching, Movieworld, and a tour of Skypoint Observation deck! Sounds like some tough gigs there, Rouen! The ambassadors are expected to share their experiences via a number of social media channels. The ambassador program will cover workshops aimed at enhancing social media skills. The ambassadors also undertake a number of mentor sessions. Rouen was appointed to this position by Mayor Tom Tate at a civic reception at the Gold Coast City Council Chambers. This initiative supported by Study Gold Coast is an amazing opportunity for Rouen and we wish him the very best with his ambassador responsibilities. We look forward to following Rouen's adventures as he shares with the world why he loves being an international student on the Gold Coast!Read more »
International students from Switzerland!
We are very lucky to have a number of international students from Switzerland join our College family. Nicole and Alexandra are pictured here enjoying the spirit of our Athletics Carnival.
Alexandra joined us last year in Year 11 and will graduate at the end of this year. Nicole came on a 6 month program and has now just returned to Switzerland. "Ms Holmes, I would like to thank you and the school that you have given me the opportunity to be a part of your college family for a semester. I really enjoyed my stay, not just because all the students were such nice and lovely people, but also all the teachers were so friendly and gave me a comfortable feeling to be in their classes. I hope all of you are going to have a great second semester! Of course, I'm a bit sad not to be there for the rest of this year, but I'm sure my new friends will tell me what's happening at the school." Nicole Mahler – International student from Switzerland.Read more »
International Department Term 3 Round Up
It's been an exciting start to Term Three in our International Department at Saint Stephen's College. We have welcomed a little over 100 students from overseas on short term programmes! This taste of Saint Stephen's is a great way for our staff and students to meet new friends and develop awareness of other cultures (plus show off our amazing College to our visitors too!).
Thank you to the many students who have been great buddies and shown our visitors what it is like to be a Saint Stephen's student! The feedback has been tremendous. Good luck to all of the student buddies for the upcoming theme park tickets draw on assembly!Read more »
