Prep to Year 3
Welcome to Foundations! The Saint Stephen’s College Foundations Program encompasses the education and well being of our students from Preparatory through to Year 3.
These crucial early years of education are a very special time for children, their parents and their teachers.
These are the conceptual years, where strong foundations are laid so that future life-long learning can transpire.
All students in the Foundations Program study the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Science , History and Geography as outlined in the Australian Curriculum.
The students work with specialist teachers for their Music, Physical Education and Art subjects. They also participate in technology lessons and other extra-curricular activities. A typical day in Foundations sees the students engaged in varied hands-on experiences, focused teaching times and real-life investigations.
In the Foundations program, we assist and encourage our students on their journey towards becoming independent readers and writers. A lot of time is dedicated to cementing their understanding of literacy and mathematical concepts, so that they can build upon this knowledge in their future years of schooling.
We understand that students work at their own ability level, and our staff provide learning experiences which support and extend their individual needs as required.Request a tour »
Barefoot in the Park
On Friday, 13 June, all students in Years 1, 2 and 3 participated in our annual Barefoot in the Park celebration, as part of Under 8’s Week.
It was a fun morning where the children, their teachers and parents came together to highlight the importance of children in our community and the contributions that they make. The fabulous Foundations staff organised so many amazing activity stations for the children to enjoy. These included face painting, kite making, bubble painting, kitty album making, book magnets, icing biscuits, hairdressing, fairy bread, fruit rockets, dress ups and many, many more! The sun shone, despite the threat of rain, and happy faces filled the Eastern playground!Read more »
Prep to Year 2 Blokes, Books and Barbeque Evening
The Prep to Year 2 cohorts hosted the annual “Blokes, Books and Barbeque Evening”. So many children came to school with their dads or special “bloke” to enjoy some quality time, participate in literacy activities and share a delicious barbeque together. The children were very excited to be able to show off all of the wonderful work that they have been doing in their classrooms, and it was a great opportunity for them to do some reading with their dad or special bloke, which is always the main focus of the evening.
For some ‘blokes’, this is one of the few opportunities they have to come and see what is happening in the classroom and once stories were shared, activities completed and classroom tours were conducted by the children, everyone made their way out to the playground for a delicious sausage sizzle, cold drink, play, and chat!Read more »
Titans Visit to Celebrate National Literacy and Numeracy Week
National Literacy and Numeracy Week is an annual event run by the Australian Government to highlight the importance of literacy and numeracy skills for all children.
The week aims to recognise the achievements of students and the work of teachers, parents and members of the community who support young people to develop stronger literacy and numeracy skills. To mark this important week, the students in the Foundations Programme were very lucky to have two Junior Titans players, Sam Gee and Matt Beddow, come to read with them.Read more »

Junior School End of Term One
The Easter Hat Parade & Grandparents & Special Friends Day
The Easter Hat Parade finished in the Multi-Purpose Hall where Prep to Year 3 students (and their teachers) show off their millinery creations. The parade moved through the campus in order to give other students an opportunity to admire them, and arrived in the Multi-Purpose Hall on time at 9.00am where the excited students were greeted by equally excited parents Grandparents and Special Friends Day. By the time you read this we would have hosted the biggest number of visitors we have for any one event. All of us look forward to welcoming grandparents and special friends, some of whom have travelled from interstate and overseas to be with us. Most of these visitors only make it to Saint Stephen’s once a year and they are always amazed by the latest facilities. I thank them on behalf of the entire College for their interest in our development and their support of our students.Read more »
