Tsion Mariam School - Donations and Sponsorships

As you may be aware, Saint Stephen’s College has a ‘sister school’ relationship with the Tsion Mariam School in Ethiopia. For many years, our College community has supported the Addis Foundation to Educate Tsion Mariam, ensuring that Tsion Mariam is licensed by the Ethiopian government as an educational institution, and helped to provide facilities that keep it “to code”. We have helped to construct and replace buildings, lunch facilities and plumbed toilets, and assisted with the operational costs. Our students have travelled on missions to Tsion Mariam, giving generously of their time to provide a loving hand and some old-fashioned “elbow grease”.

In the past 6 months, the Addis Foundation to Educate Tsion Mariam has provided for cooling slings to be installed in the classrooms, which provides a more comfortable climate for the students of the school. We were also able to meet the costs to purchase a photocopier for the school. Our heart-felt thanks go to all in our College community who helped to reach these goals.

Making a Donation

Your help and support will make a world of difference!

Click here to make a donation on-line (credit card, cheque or direct deposit)

Click here to download a Credit Authority Form to send into the College Accounts Department

or alternatively visit our College Accounts Department between 8am and 4pm to make a donation in person.

Your tax deductable donations will be put towards a variety of difference areas, depending upon the areas of greatest need indentified by Adanech, the Principal of the Tsion Mariam school, and our director, Mrs Katrina Riley.

At present, the donations are being put towards the following initiatives:

The Building Fund

A donation here will help to fevelop and maintain the Tsion Marioam school through building projects and the supply of large classroom and office equipment.  Currently Adanech has requested doors and windows for the school buildings along with an outdoor concrete pad.

Stationery and School Supplies

A donation of $40 is sufficient to supply stationery to around five students per year.

Book and Library Fund

A donation will help orovide instructional and reading books for the Tsion Mariam students and staff.  We are trying to set up and maintain a school library, which they do not currently have.  A donation of $40 is suffecient to puchase between one and four high-quality books.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me at if you have any questions or queries.

Thanking you in advance for all of your support!

Saint Stephen's College educates for the future, not just the present.

Candice Ong, the recipient of Saint Stephen’s Bond University Collegiate Scholarship for 2007, has more than lived up to her potential, completing a double degree and securing a career with IBM in less than three years.

Candice Ong was one of our stand-out year 12 graduates in 2006 who chose to utilize her Collegiate Scholarship to study a Bachelor of Information and Bachelor of Business concurrently.

Tackling such a demanding academic workload proved to be no problem for this star performer. Candice was named on the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence in three separate semesters, the Vice-Chancellor’s List in one semester and, in 2008 and 2009, won the Peter Poole Book Prize as the student with the highest grade point average in a combined IT degree.

In her final year at Bond, Candice undertook a three-month programming internship with Austar and a software engineering internship with the Gold Coast City Council, gaining practical workplace experience before applying for graduate positions.
